A Winemaker’s Passion | Kim Vance of Zoetic Wines

I’ve always admired what inspires others passions, especially something that they will drop everything for to accomplish. That’s Kim Vance; a winemaker extraordinaire who moved from Texas to California to produce her own wine from start to finish.

I met Kim in an all too appropriate way to meet a vintner; on a drinking tour. Although this was a beer tour, we were all in agreement on our appreciation for complexities of alcohol. After a couple brews, Kim and I bumped into each other and started chatting. I immediately fell in love with her story and had to try her wine.

After working in the finance industry for 15 years, Kim felt that something was missing. She had traveled to California’s wine country countless times and fell in love with the beautiful rolling vineyards, and glorious wineries, as many people do. However, during one trip in early 2008, a suggestion was made that she find a position on a harvest crew to fully experience wine making. Eight months later she was back in Cali, working every morning on the harvest crew with a smile on her face. That’s when the story of Zoetic Wines begins. Kim and her husband David uprooted their life in Texas and made the permanent move to California to produce their own wine.

Zoetic Wines are special because they are personally made with great attention to detail. Their 2014 “Complesso” Sauvignon Blanc from Russian River Valley is the perfect Summer wine. We paired it with roast chicken and were happy as clams sipping away throughout the night. The wine has tropical fruit flavors of lychee, papaya, and quince that are combined with French vanilla and toasted almond aromas. It is super silky with medium body and has a crisp, balanced finish.

A week later, we had to try their red, a Pinot Noir, also from the Russian River Valley. It had hints of cherries, raspberries, mocha and a touch of spice on the nose. The wine is medium bodied yet intense, as ripe tannins provide structure for a long, complex finish. We paired it with grilled steak and mushrooms. Traditionally I’m not a red wine lover, however, this wine caught me off guard and paired wonderfully with our meal. It’s opened me to the world of Pinot!

To make this wine even better, they are partners with Cellar Angels, an organization that donates a portion of the proceeds to a cause of your choosing. The Zoetic Wines offer starts on 8/29/16 and runs for 4 weeks. Make sure you pick up a bottle!

Zoetic Wines are the perfect pairing for that dinner party you’re having or that special moment with a loved one. It’s great to support local business as well, especially those that give back to the community. With such great personal touch that this wine has, we hope the support only grows. Exclusively sold online, they are absolutely worth the buy. Cheers!
