One of the great joys of the wine business is finding a home at a place where the Pinot Noir wines, the people, and the place at which you work come together in great harmony. I have been with MacPhail Family Wines for nearly 3 years and one of the most enjoyable parts of my job is the storytelling about the people and places from which our wines come. We specialize in “wines of place”, wines that truly reflect the place from which they are grown. Winemaker James MacPhail has had a keen eye for great vineyards since the beginning and the vineyard from which he sourced the Sundawg Ridge Pinot Noir featured in this month’s Cellar Angels’ offer is one of our most popular Pinots.
The vineyard itself is situated in the Green Valley sub appellation of the Russian River Valley in Sonoma. It is about 5 miles north of our Tasting Lounge at The Barlow in Sebastopol. Planted in 1994 by Nancy Winn and Chuck Kensler, it is one of the most idyllic vineyards of the many we buy from. Chuck and Nancy are truly two of the nicest people around and when visiting their vineyard, treat you like family. In no time, you will be sitting with them, drinking iced tea, and hearing tales about their vineyard adventure.
The wines from this vineyard are consistently rich and well balanced. This is one of those wines that will have you asking yourself, did I order enough? It really is one of the finest wines in our portfolio and we trust you will agree. Thank you for your support.
