Winemaker Notes

“Syrah has always been a special wine for us because it represents the Rhône Valley, a place in France we are very fond of. In most of our vintages, we’ve been inspired by the winemakers in Côte Rôtie by adding a little Viognier. For the 2017 vintage we also worked with two different Syrah vineyards, allowing us to create more complexity with the addition of some cool climate Russian River Valley Syrah (approximately 9%)

With budwood brought over in a suitcase in the late 90’s from the Norther Rhône region, our Syrah is always a crowd pleaser. Due to timing issues for this vintage, we back blended in 3% Viognier instead of performing a co-fermentation in order to add complexity & richness. Concentrated with a great mouth feel, you’ll find this wine full of rich blackberry flavors with notes of mocha and cedar and balanced acidity” –Winemaker Jon Phillips

About the Winery
Inspiration Vineyards
Born from a dream and a mid-life career change, Inspiration Vineyards was created in 2002. Jon Phillips’ passion for wine, however, dates back much further to his grandparents who made wine in the early 1900’s. For years, Jon was determined to break into the wine business by working weekends in tasting rooms, teaching wine classes and ultimately enrolling in a class at UC Davis in Enology and Viticulture.
