Winemaker Andy Schweiger recommends pairing this Cabernet Sauvignon with a New York steak with sauteed mushrooms and roasted brussels sprouts on the side.

96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 1% Malbec
Schweiger Vineyards has 35 planted acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Grapes grown at the top of the slopes surrounding the Napa Valley present unique challenges; for instance, terraces too steep for a tractor. However, those same steep terraces also provide the drainage to produce smaller berries with thicker grape skins to produce the highest quality wines.
“2016 is the newest vintage of our Cabernet Sauvignon, ad it’s quite the vixen. The color alone is striking – and inky shade of garnet that verges on black velvet. The entry is plush but then meanders into an intensely layered mid-palate of blackberry, boysenberry, and pomegranate. Mingling with the fruit components are gentle notes of oak, tobacco, and bramble. The finish lingers on and on with playful acidity and tannin flashing the berry expressions for as long as 45 seconds.” – Winemaker Andy Schweiger
The son of Fred and Sally, Andy grew up in the vineyard working with family clearing and planting, and at the age of 16, he worked as a cellar rat for other local wineries. He has worked for several wineries in Napa and Sonoma County, and since year one, has been Winemaker for Schweiger Vineyards. On the rare occasion he has free time, Andy enjoys playing saxophone, cheering for the San Jose Sharks, and anything Disney.
