What is Veraison: California Winemakers Offer Vineyard Updates
In viticulture the process of grapes ripening and clusters changing color from green to purple is described as veraison. After the vines develop its canopy, all the energy is now starting to direct towards the fruit. This is an exciting time for viticulturists and winemakers as it is a sign that grapes are ready to ripen and harvest is approaching. From that point it takes anywhere from 30 to 70 days for grapes to fully ripen before picking can begin and winemakers can then start the next step: making wine.California winemakers and winegrowers are offering video updates from their Napa and Sonoma vineyards.
