A blog, what a responsibility!!
The folks at Cellar Angels told me I could write a blog, I’m not actually sure what a blog is supposed to be other than a rambling stream of conscious. So, here goes. Oh, and I suppose it should be about something to do with Wine.
The other thing is, I’m not really much of a wine geek so my blog might be more about what I’m thinking and feeling than what it takes to make a great wine.
Great wine is pretty much like anything that’s great, highly subjective. Either you like it or you don’t. Art, cars, flowers, clothes, you name it and it’s what you like, not what anybody tells you that you should think is great or good.
Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of time drinking a fair amount of fermented grape juice and discovered that the style of wine I like is a bit more finessed than some of the most recent offerings from a lot of the folks in the wine business these days, so I decided to make my own. I knew that the grapes totally make the wine, and that some of the best red wine grapes that make one of my favorite types of wines come from around the neighborhood I decided to move to – Napa Valley, California.
So, here I am, living in St Helena, CA and making what I think may be some of the best tasting wines around. I started making wines that reminded me of the wines I drank growing up in Europe as a kid and having a bunch of fun doing it! Making wine and having your friends around helping you make, bottle and taste the wines that you’ve just taken out of the barrel, tasted and blended into a fabulous Bordeaux style red wine blend.
Now what could you do that’s more fun than that? I spent the better part of my life travelling around the world, enjoying art, theater, eating great food, cooking great food, drinking wonderful wines and learning what it is that I like in both food and wine. I think that qualifies me as an expert in what I really like, remember, we started off there, talking about what makes great wine.
So, from here on out, the next time you see my “Blog” here, we are going to be discussing the finer things in life and just general ruminations on living the “high life” in wine country and all the cool things that happen here during my tenure.
Ciao for now!
