Hoopes Vineyard is a family owned winery dedicated to producing premium Cabernet Sauvignon. Located in the prestigious Oakville AVA within the Napa Valley, the team’s goal is to capture the truest expression of the Oakville terroir in which their grapes are grown.

After deciding he’d had enough of San Francisco’s fog, Proprietor Spencer Hoopes purchased the land in 1981. Once settled in with retirement under his belt, Spencer strongly embraced the land and his love of farming, diving into viticulture and enology, and working with neighbors to preserve the area. In 1983 he planted his 10-acre vineyard and quickly found a home for the high quality grapes in some of the better wineries in Napa Valley. Fast forward 15 years, Spencer decided it was time for the Hoopes label makes its debut.

Today, Spencer’s daughter, Lindsay Cooper has taken over management of the winery. The two work hand in hand together to produce true grower-made wines in an “old-world meets new-world” style, with an emphasis on their premium Cabernet Sauvignon fruit.

From 2012 through 2018 winemaking was led by the talented duo Anne Vawter and Jennifer Rue who appreciate Spencer and Lindsay’s commitment to the historical significance of their vineyards and their shared philosophy of vineyard-focused winemaking. With a B.S. in viticulture and enology from UC Davis, Anne’s experience runs deep. She’s gained knowledge working in various wineries in Washington, California and Chile, followed by four years as Assistant to Heidi Barrett at Paradigm Winery in the Napa Valley.

In 2020, esteemed Winemaker Aaron Pott joined Lindsey on her wine journey at Hoopes Vineyard. Pott was drawn to the idea of creating classic wines that are representative of the great appellations in Napa Valley, specifically the Oakville appellations, and Hoopes’ home. But, it was more than just the beautiful land, grapes, and Oakville-heritage that drew Pott to this new role. From their initial meeting, Pott was profoundly moved by proprietor Lindsay Hoopes’ overall ethos, passion, and creativity, which run through every aspect of Hoopes Vineyard. It was a match made in Napa, well, vineyards. 

And the very special label? An homage to Dante, Spencer’s beloved furry friend who serves as energetic inspiration for Hoopes Family Vineyard. Displayed in a gorgeous, embossed gold leaf, the image of Dante jumping through the hoop of a barrel has graced the label since the first vintage.
