Established in 2007, Loomis Estate Vineyards is relatively new to the Napa Valley, but already creating exceptional wines. Jeff Loomis, founder and vintner of Loomis Family Vineyards, doesn’t like to be told no. When he purchased the majestic mountain property that would become his home and vineyard, he was told he couldn’t grow Rhône varietals there. He’s had a passion for Rhône wines ever since studying abroad and cycling through Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the South of France. That inspired his dream to make Rhône-style wines. Despite the opposition, he pushed forward, building his home and planting Syrah and Grenache, along with other Rhône varietals, on his ranch property. The grapes are grown on four acres, each of which was chosen for its unique terroir, offering maximum sun exposure, ideal micro-climate and varietal-specific soil conditions.
Winemaking is led by Rudy Zuidema and Associate Winemaker Michael Andrews. With a long standing friendship and mutual admiration for one another’s expertise, they work well together and bring much talent to the winemaking process. Rudy, with almost 30 years of winemaking experience in the Napa Valley, takes a natural approach to viticulture and viniculture, following organic and biodynamic farming practices in the vineyard and an emphasis on classic, small-lot techniques and gentle handling during the winemaking process. Michael brings a rich background in vineyard management, quality control and mastery of the cellar. He is instrumental in overseeing the daily operations and is involved in all the essentials of maintaining the highest quality wines.
