Nestled among the majestic coastal redwoods of the Mayacamas Mountains, the steeply terraced mountainside vineyard yields small amounts of richly flavored Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Sangiovese grapes. From this and select cool-climate vineyards throughout Sonoma County, Betsy and Peter Spann craft very limited quantities of European-style blended wines, strongly influenced by their admiration of Bordeaux, the Rhone Valley and Tuscany.

Many years ago before Betsy and Peter found each other, they each found and fell in love with wine. Betsy was living with her family in France and Peter was waiting tables in college. Betsy’s path included a career in wine. She enjoyed time working in the vineyards and wine production, as well as wine retail and ultimately wine imports. An interest in aviation took her away from Wine Country but a passion for wine was calling her back. On a parallel journey, Peter worked in restaurants as a server, restaurant manager and wine buyer and continued cultivating his fascination for wine. He left the restaurant business to work in the wine business as a wholesaler and traveled Europe, absorbing everything he could about old world wine making. The two met in Dallas, but soon determined their collective hearts belonged in Northern California. They purchased a small, hidden vineyard in Sonoma that is now known as Spann Vineyards.

The Spanns strive to create food-friendly wines that are elegantly balanced with a full, complex aroma, layers of flavors, and a silky-smooth finish. Their hope is you’ll enjoy and appreciate the wines in the delightful company of friends and family.
