Winemaker Michael Scholz, a native of Australia, began making wine in the 1980’s after studying at Roseworthy College (now known as the University of Adelaide). As is typical of some of the best in the industry, Michael worked his way up from the bottom, beginning his career as a cellar hand. He became Winemaker at St. Supéry in 1996 and created a distinctive style of Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc before moving on in 2001. He returned to St. Supéry after spending time at Wattle Creek Winery and is now the Vice President and Winemaker at the state of the art St. Supéry Vineyards. Well respected in the wine industry, Oenologist and consultant Michel Rolland says, “Michael Scholz is on my list of great winemakers from around the world.” Although Michael remains humble, saying, “Quality is about the vineyard. My job is to slowly steer the ship”, the fourteen 90+ point scores his wines received in 2012 alone speak for themselves.
