From the Colorado Rockies to the Napa Valley, the talented Michael Trujillo has been involved in all aspects of the wine business – from vineyard cultivation and irrigation digging, to cooperage selection and blending – for three decades.
Noting the famed André Tchelistcheff as his mentor with whom he worked with in the vineyard during his early years in the Napa Valley, Michael founded Karl Lawrence Cellars in 1991 and made the wines up to the 2010 vintage. He currently serves as the Director of Winemaking and President of Sequoia Grove Winery and in 2011 launch his own label, Trujillo Wines.
One of the first winemakers to combine Rutherford valley fruit with the spicier, more intense mountain fruit, Michael created the “cult wine without the cult price”. Much of his fruit comes from some of the finest vineyards of the Rutherford, Howell Mountain and St. Helena AVAs, including Herb and Jennifer Lamb, Gary Morisoli and Bryan Henry.
During a visit to St. Helena, don’t miss Trujillo’s quaint, award-winning (and dog-friendly!) tasting room where you’ll have the chance to taste a range of exclusive white wine blends as well as limited production vineyard designate wines and reserve Cabernets.
